Sensor-based water leak detection systems

Sensor-based water leak detection works by using one or more of spot sensors, probes and cable/distance measuring cable, to identify water pooling. When water is detected, this information is fed back to a central control panel which will act to stop water flow and/or raise an alarm. Sensor-based systems can be single or multi-zone. Single- zone systems monitor one specific area, while a multi-zone system can monitor up to 500 separate areas.

Single-zone

AquaTek

An entry-level water leak detection system, the AquaTek is designed for residential or smaller commercial applications. When triggered, the AquaTek sends a signal to a BMS via a relay, as well as initiating a localised audio-visual alarm which is activated when a leak is detected. The AquaTek can be connected to sensor cables, probes and pads, with monitoring available for distances of up to 30 metres from the panel.

Example applications: Multiple tea points, small and medium-sized server rooms and/or combined UPS storage areas, hidden pipework and water storage tanks.

AquaTraq

A water leak detector alarm, designed to identify water in sensitive areas where high value equipment and/or data is present. The AquaTraq is capable of working with a variety of detection devices, including sensor cable and probes. This device is effective over a combined cable length of 100 metres from the panel and is able to alert users to faults on the sensor equipment. When triggered, the device emits an audio-visual alarm and can be connected to a BMS. The AquaTraq can also automatically send a text message via an Autodialler or SMS system to alert a user that a leak has been detected. The option to connect the AquaTraq to a solenoid valve is also available, enabling the water supply to be shut off when a leak occurs. Battery backup is also available, allowing the system to remain functional for up to 10 hours.

Example applications: Archive rooms, electrical switch rooms, boiler houses, plant rooms and small data centres

DWD

A compact, easy-to-install water leak detection system. Using a detection probe that can be fixed to any clean surface where the possibility of a leak exists, when water is detected, the DWD goes into alarm and a siren sounds. The DWD can be powered from a 9v battery or a mains supply.

Example applications: Air-conditioning units, dishwashers, washing machines, bathrooms, attics, basements, boats and caravans.

FloodStoppa

A water leak detection system that is a sensor-based alternative for both residential or commercial use. The device can be connected to sensors, pads or lengths of cable fixed to pipework. When the FloodStoppa is alerted to the presence of water, it goes into alarm and a warning LED illuminates on the panel. Simultaneously, a solenoid valve (if fitted) will close and the water supply shuts off. Following investigation and repair of the water leak, the system is simply restored by pressing a reset button. There are two versions of this product available: the FloodStoppa, which can utilise multiple valves, detect a fault on the sensor equipment and connect to a BMS; and the FloodStoppa Mini, a cost-effective option for domestic applications, which can operate a single valve and does not carry the two other features of the FloodStoppa.

Example applications: Air-conditioning units, dishwashers, washing machines, bathrooms, water tanks in attics and basements.

WaterBug

A water leak detector alarm designed to identify water in sensitive areas, where high value equipment and/or data is present. The WaterBug is capable of working with a variety of detection devices, including sensor cable and probes and emits an audio-visual alarm when triggered. A BMS-compatible version of the WaterBug is also available.

Example applications: Archive rooms, comms rooms, computer rooms, electrical switch rooms, boiler houses, plant rooms and small data centres

Multi-zone

AquaTek 4

A compact, entry-level water leak detection alarm system. The AquaTek 4 can monitor up to four separate detection zones, over a distance of up to 30 metres from the panel. Typically designed for domestic or smaller commercial applications, the device provides an audio-visual alarm to indicate which zone has been affected. The AquaTek 4 is BMS-compatible via a volt free relay output. Individual zone relays also enable, when combined with solenoid valves, the water supply to be shut off automatically to the specific zones affected.

Example applications: Multiple tea points, small and medium-sized server rooms, combined UPS storage areas, hidden pipework and water storage tanks.

GWD

A water leak detection system ideal for monitoring up to eight individual zones. The GWD is designed to detect the presence of water in sensitive areas where high value equipment and/or data is present. The GWD is capable of working with a variety of sensor equipment, including cable and probes. When water is detected, the device emits an audio-visual alarm according to the affected zone. The GWD also monitors for faults on the sensor equipment and can identify cable breaks and broken connections. The GWD can be connected to a BMS, as well as other devices such as a solenoid valve, enabling the water to be shut off automatically in the event a leak is detected. Individual relays also allow for different functions to be performed tailored to specific zones.

Example applications: Archive rooms, comms rooms, computer rooms, electrical switch rooms, boiler houses, plant rooms and large data centres.

Leak Lokator II

A sophisticated water leak detection system, capable of monitoring up to 500 zones simultaneously. This system is an ideal solution for large, multi-floor buildings and is designed to be used in critical areas such as data centres, risers and server rooms. The Leak Lokator II is comprised of a master station connected to up to 100 outstations, that can be up to 100 metres away and communicate via a two-wire, fully isolated RS485 network. Each outstation can carry five sensor probes or cables of up to 50 metres long, with all 500 zones monitored every 60 seconds. The Leak Lokator II uses Windows-based touch screen monitor technology and an intuitive user interface to make programming and operating simple. A ‘Find me’ function also triggers an audio alarm in the affected outstation, to enable easy tracing of units positioned under floors. A visual alarm is also activated on the master station and relay contacts are available to connect with other BMSs.

Example applications: Archive rooms, comms rooms, computer rooms, electrical switch rooms, boiler houses, plant rooms and large data centres.
